Invisalign Facts from a North York Orthodontist
Invisalign has changed the landscape of orthodontics. The clear aligners allow you to eat and drink what you want and don’t interfere with your lifestyle the way that traditional metal braces can. Have you been wondering if Invisalign is right for you? Here are some facts from York Mills Orthodontics.
Invisalign is Discreet
Many adults want straighter teeth, but don’t want to draw attention to themselves by wearing metal braces. With Invisalign, no one will be able to tell that you are wearing aligners.
Unlike metal braces, Invisalign’s flexibility allows you to eat what you want. Ideally, Invisalign aligners should be worn 22 hours out of the day. That still gives you time to discreetly remove them before you eat, allowing you to dine out without sacrificing your favourite dishes or even snacks like gum, caramel, popcorn—no food is off limits.
There are Other Versions of Aligners or “Copycat” Aligners on the Market
Don’t be fooled by the convenience of ordering “copycat” aligners or “Do-it-yourself” aligners online. Not all clear aligners are created equal! Most importantly, without the training and expertise of an orthodontist to conduct your treratment, the treatment outcome can be very unpredictable and disappointing, compared to what you are hoping to achieve.
Invisalign is appropriate for many people, but it’s not for everyone. You may require a different type of orthodontic treatment. A full evaluation by an orthodontist is necessary to determine if Invisalign is right for you.
Invisalign is Customized
Invisalign works by allowing us to incrementally move your teeth. Approximately every 1-2 weeks, you will change to a new set of aligners. Each set of aligners is customized by the doctor, just for you progressivelymoving your teeth in a controlled manner.
Typically, you can expect to see your orthodontist every 10-12 weeks. Your appointment schedule may be more or less, depending on your needs. You can always contact your orthodontist if you have any questions or concerns.
