Do You Suffer From Tension Headaches?

At York Mills Orthodontics, we specialize in the innovative use of therapeutic Botox® for the relief of tension-type headaches. Dr. Corinne Haiat is skilled in administering Botox® injections specifically tailored to target the muscles often causing these headaches, providing our patients with much-needed relief.

Understanding Tension Headaches:

Tension-type headaches are characterized as a persistent dull pain, often described as muscle tightness around the head. These headaches can be caused by muscle tension in various areas of the head and neck.

Targeted Treatment With Botox®:

Our Botox® therapy focuses on key muscles that are commonly involved in tension-type headaches:

Masseter: This powerful jaw muscle can contribute to tension headaches, especially in individuals who clench or grind their teeth.

Temporalis: Located on the sides of the head, this muscle plays a crucial role in jaw movement and can be a source of tension and pain.

Frontalis: Situated on the forehead, tension in this muscle can lead to frontal headaches.

Orbicularis Oculi: This muscle encircles the eye and can contribute to headaches, especially around the eye area.

Glabella: The area between the eyebrows, where muscle tension can lead to the classic ‘frown lines’, is also a common site for headache pain.

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® works by temporarily relaxing these specific muscles, thereby reducing the muscle tension that contributes to headaches. By administering Botox® injections directly into these areas, we can effectively alleviate the pain and frequency of tension-type headaches.

Safe And Effective:

Botox® therapy at York Mills Orthodontics is a safe and effective management for many patients suffering from chronic tension-type headaches. Dr. Haiat ensures that each treatment is tailored to the individual needs of each patient, providing relief with minimal discomfort and downtime.

Therapeutic Botox® Treatment For Bruxism And Clenching

At York Mills Orthodontics, we focus on providing therapeutic Botox® treatments for patients suffering facial pain associated with parafunction such as bruxism and/or clenching. Bruxism, commonly known as teeth grinding, as well as clenching, can lead to a range of dental and muscular issues, including
tension-type headaches, migraines, and symptoms of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD). Our targeted Botox® therapy addresses these issues by focusing on key facial muscles.

Understanding Bruxism/clenching And Its Impact

Bruxism often leads to excessive wear of the teeth resulting in tooth pain. Both bruxism and clenching can contribute to significant pain relating to the facial muscles. This condition is frequently associated with tension-type headaches and migraines due to the constant strain on the jaw muscles involved in chewing and facial expression. Additionally, bruxism can exacerbate symptoms of TMD, leading to jaw pain, difficulty in chewing, and even locking of the jaw joint.

Consultation And Care:

We invite you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Corinne Haiat to determine if therapeutic Botox® is the right solution to help you more effectively manage
your pain and discomfort. Let us help you find the relief you deserve and to improve your quality of life with our specialized Botox® treatment.

Treatment Session: Our non-surgical procedure lasts 40 to 60 minutes, targeting specific key muscles.

Pain Management: The injection pain is minimal, often described as a slight prick.

Recovery: You can return to normal activities immediately but should avoid massaging the treated areas. You should also avoid strenuous exercise for 3-4 hours following the procedure.

Post-op: You may experience temporary swelling, redness, or bruising, with muscle tenderness diminishing within a few hours.
