Busting Myths About Orthodontics (Part 2)

We recently discussed some of the myths surrounding orthodontics in our latest blog post. If you haven’t had the chance to read part one, click here! This week we’re tackling a few more of those myths and helping to share more knowledge about orthodontic treatment and what it entails.

Myth #3: “I’m too old for braces, they are for kids and teenagers.”

This myth is most certainly incorrect! There is no age limit on orthodontic treatment. In fact, in recent years there has been an increase in the number of adults seeking and undergoing orthodontic treatment. It is never too late to improve your smile.

Myth #4: “Anyone who provides braces or aligners to straighten teeth is an orthodontist.”

This myth is also incorrect. You will notice many web-based companies and general dentists advertising treatments to straighten your teeth. However, an orthodontist is a highly trained specialist. Orthodontists are doctors of dental surgery and then have an additional 2-3 years of specialized training in orthodontics. If you want the knowledge, skill and experience of a specialist, speak to us at York Mills Orthodontics.

We know there are many misconceptions about orthodontics, and we will always help deliver the correct information to you! If you have any questions about treatment for yourself or your child, please feel free to contact us. Our orthodontic office is located in North York!
